Herxeimer Reactions

The herxheimer reaction, nicknamed "herx" or otherwise referred to as Jarisch-Herxheimer (J-H) is a phenomena originally observed in the treatment of syphilis, but later found in other illness and is especially relevant when treating Lyme Disease..

Within a few days (usually one to three) after beginning therapy (such as Rife or an antimicrobial), it is common for many with Lyme to suddenly begin experiencing a worsening of their symptoms. This reaction occurs when the body tries to remove toxins at a faster rate than they can be properly eliminated

Sypmtoms (any of the following in any combination)

  • Joint Pain
  • Muscle Pain
  • Bone Pain
  • Headaches
  • Cold or flu like symptoms
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Night Sweats
  • Diahhrea
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue - can be extreme
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Rashes, hives, itching
  • Depression
  • Just generally feeling bad


Coping with Herx's (some combination of the following)

Increase the elimination of toxins

  • Coffee enemas
  • Sauna's - especially far infrared 
  • Epson salt baths 

Bind toxins in the gut


Upregulate the body's detox pathways


Keep the blood flowing (tends to thicken with toxic sludge)


Downregulate Inflammatory Responce
