Abdominal Diagnosis:
Weak abdominal tension with fluctuated liquid sound.

TCM Formulation Strategy:
The chief ingredient, cang zhu, dispels dampness and strengthens the transporting function of the spleen. The deputy herb, hou po, clears dampness and disperses fullness. Both chief and deputy work together to dry dampness and strengthen the spleen. The assistant herb, chen pi, regulates qi to transform dampness. Zhi gan cao, the envoy, tonifies the spleen and harmonizes the actions of the other herbs. The other envoys, sheng jiang and da zao, regulate and harmonize the relationship between the spleen and stomach. The combination of all herbs therefore revives the spleen and improves the appetite.
