Jin Qian Cao Stone

Jin Qian Cao Stone Formula is a modification of Specific Drug Passwan for kidney stones. Lysimachia (jin qian cao) and lygoidum (hai jin sha) are thought to reduce stones. Other herbs vitalize blood or have diuretic effects, including tienchi ginseng (san qi), red peony (chi shao), dianthus (qu mai), polygonum (bian xu), lygoidum (hai jin sha) and plantago seed (che qian zi). Lysimachia, dianthus, lygoidum, gardenia (zhi zi), and capillaris (yin chen hao) eliminate damp heat. Gardenia and plantago (che qian zi) clear toxin. Bupleurum (chai hu), tienchi (san qi), and licorice (gan cao) have an anti-inflammatory effect. Tienchi is also traditionally used to reduce swelling and pain.

Clinical Notes

1. This formula dissolves stones slowly over time
2. Western medicine is of importance when the condition is serious, i.e. severe pain or acute inflammation or threat of the stone entering the ureter
3. General course of treatment is six months to one year
