FUNCTIONS
Oligonol®: The lychee fruit is native to southern China and treasured over millenia for its numerous uses as food and medicine. For centuries, its consumption has been associated with beauty and longevity.

Oligonol is a unique low molecular weight polyphenol extract derived from the lychee. Polyphenols are molecules found in plants that are renowned for their antioxidant benefits. Low molecular weight polyphenol extracts may have additional benefits over other polyphenol containing products, as the low molecular weight can allow for greater bioavailability as compared to regular molecular weight polyphenol products. Oligonol® has shown to have superior bioavailability as compared regular lychee fruit extracts. Additional studies indicate that Oligonol® can support normal circulatory and cardiovascular health among many other roles.†

Its potent antioxidant protection is thought to play a key role supporting normal immune health, as it can offer added protection against the normal production of free radicals. In one study, Oligonol was shown to have superior protection against unwanted free radical production as it occurred during times of proliferation. N Acetyl L-Cysteine: NAC is a precursor for the sulfur amino acid cysteine, and cysteine is used by the body to synthesize glutathione. NAC is efficiently transported into the cell where it is readily converted to cysteine for glutathione synthesis. Thus, supplementation with NAC can raise intracellular glutathione levels and provide potent antioxidant protection.

This antioxidant defense mechanism is believed to play a key role in attenuating the body’s normal immune response and promote overall health to the respiratory system. Several studies conducted in Europe point to NAC’s ability to support optimal respiratory health. Other studies indicate that NAC may be especially helpful in moderating the body’s normal progression of wellness during the winter season.†

Vitamin D: Vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin” is an essential vitamin that plays many important roles in the proper functioning of the body, including immune health. While vitamin D is best known for its roles in bone health, recent studies indicate vitamin D may play crucial roles in the normal functioning and maintenance of the body’s immune system.†

During the fall and winter seasons, vitamin D status in individuals may naturally decrease, due to reduced sun exposure. Recent data indicate that decreased levels of vitamin D may be associated with suboptimal immune and respiratory health function.†

Ultra Preventive® X: Ultra Preventive® X now contains Metafolin®, a patented, natural form of (6S) 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) as well as 500 IU of vitamin D3 per serving. 5-MTHF is the naturally occurring, predominant form of folate commonly found in cells and is essential for overall health, as it participates as a cofactor in a reaction that involves the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine. Unlike synthetic folic acid, 5-MTHF can be used directly by the body, without the need for an additional conversion via the enzyme (5,10- methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR)). In certain populations, the body’s ability to convert folic acid to 5-MTHF by use of this enzyme may be compromised due to genetic differences. Metafolin® contains only the S isomer of 5-MTHF and has been shown to be the only form of folate to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Additional vitamin D3 (also known as cholecalciferol) has been added to this formula as numerous scientists now feel that supplementation with vitamin D at levels greater than previously thought necessary is critical to helping maintain overall health.
